NEWS: Minnesota Theater Alliance’s New Director

It’s transition time for some of Minnesota’s leading arts organizations, and the Minnesota Theater Alliance is no exception. Today, MTA named Joanna Schnedler as its new Executive Director, succeeding the outgoing (and founding director) Leah Cooper. This leadership transition includes a 2.5-week overlap for Cooper to hand off the reins in good order.

Schnedler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Theater Arts from Simpson College, a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management, and a Master of Business Administration from Hamline University. She has been active in the Twin Cities theater community for over 15 years in a variety of onstage, backstage, and administrative role, working with small and large organizations both young and old. Schnedler has worked for a variety of arts organizations in different roles, including Park Square Theatre, the Jungle Theater, Theatre L’Homme Dieu, Lakeshore Players, Northstar Opera, Penumbra Theater, Pillsbury House Chicago Avenue Project, Actors Theater of Minnesota, Great Northern Union Chorus, and Utah Festival Opera. She was the Performance Manager of Theatre de la Jeune Lune for eight years, and is a former member of the Actors Equity Association.

In recent years, Joanna held the position of General Manager for the Fitzgerald Theater in downtown St. Paul, managing the business operations for this major performing arts and public radio venue. More recently, she worked at the Fitzgerald to manage projects in historic preservation, budgeting, and fundraising activities.
