NEWS: Cats Out of the Bag, Off Hennepin Theatre Trust’s 2021-2022 Season

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that the Broadway musical Cats will no longer be part of its upcoming 2021-2022 season. The schedule adjustment is the latest of many cascading changes in entertainment planning across the country as different venues, production companies, and individual artists adjust their schedules.

Cats was last scheduled to run Jan. 25-30, 2022. At press time, the Hennepin Theatre Trust was working with the producers of Cats to secure a new date in a forthcoming season.

According to several musicians from the Cats national tour that was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, many prior cast members and pit musicians have already been contracted for the tour to restart, with rehearsals being scheduled and an official reopening in September. Contracts are being offered through June 2022, but with many different performing dates as changes to one touring show impact another.

Unlike Hamilton, which was already pushed to another season entirely, tickets for Cats were only available for purchase as an add-on to season subscription packages, and were not yet on sale to the general (non-subscribing) public. Season subscribers with tickets to Cats will be automatically credited for use toward a future event. They will also be contacted with an explanation of additional options which include donating the value of their tickets or receiving a refund.

The Hennepin Theatre Trust’s 2021-2022 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin season is now scheduled to kick off in October with Disney’s Frozen. Tickets are on sale now at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.
