NEWS: St. Olaf College Sells Out Christmas Festival

St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN has sold out its annual Christmas Festival. The 3-day performance series, which has taken place since 1912, features nearly 500 student musicians. More than 8,000 audience members will pack Skoglund Auditorium from December 6-8 to hear the St. Olaf Choir, St. Olaf Chapel Choir, Viking Chorus, Manitou Singers, St. Olaf Cantorei, and St. Olaf Orchestra.

Although the main live performances are sold out, the program will be livestreamed and broadcast live on YourClassicalMPR during the Sunday, 12/8 performance at 3 pm. This program will also be available at yourclassical.org/holiday.

A special national broadcast of the St. Olaf Christmas Festival celebrating the college’s sesquicentennial will be distributed by American Public Media. In the Twin Cities, this encore special will air on Monday, December 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 21 at 3 p.m. An on-demand video will be available the evening of December 18 through christmas.stolaf.edu.

Four additional events will be open to the general public:

  • Norseman Band Christmas Singalong
    Friday, December 6 at 4:30 pm in Boe Chapel

    The annual Norseman Band Singalong takes place Friday, December 6 at 4:30 pm in Boe Chapel.

  • Christmas Festival Warming House 
    Saturday, December 6 & Sunday, December 7 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in the Center for Art and Dance

    Visitors are invited to stop by on their way to Skoglund Auditorium for this special event in honor of the St. Olaf Sesquicentennial. Warm-up with a cup of gourmet hot chocolate, view a digital exhibit about the history of the Christmas Festival, and enjoy other fun surprises! All are welcome.

  • Christmas Bells by the St. Olaf Handbell Choirs
    Saturday, December 7 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Buntrock Commons

    The St. Olaf Handbell Choir will perform on the 2nd level of Buntrock Commons.

  • St. Olaf Band Sunday Service
    Sunday, December 8 at 10:30 am in Boe Chapel

    The St. Olaf Band will provide a festive performance during the Sunday service.
