Minnesota Opera’s 2018-2019 season kicks off tonight with Giacomo Puccini’s La Rondine, a tale of new love and spectres of the past. [Editor’s note: Naturally, this plot has no bearing at all on our 100% non-judgmental society, sex shame-less society of today.] Here’s a look at the production. Irish soprano Celine Byrne as Magda, the titular swallow (“rondine”) of the opera. Over the last year, Byrne has sung Puccini roles in Ireland and Austria, and Mozart roles in Germany, Israel – and a little Sound of Music in Ireland for good measure. Photo by Cory Weaver.
