Photo by Alyssa Kristine. Tonight, Gremlin Theatre’s production of Florian Zeller’s The Father opens in St. Paul. This play, originally written in French and translated by Christopher Hampton, is a darkly humorous exploration of the ravages of dementia. The play’s incisive monologues have made André, the titular father, something of an audition favorite for actors of a certain age. Gremlin’s production is directed by Ellen Fenster and stars Craig Johnson as The Father and Miriam Schwartz as his daughter, Anne. The cast is rounded out by Peter Christian Hansen, Emily Grodzik, Matt Wall, and Olivia Wilusz. Here’s a look at the show: Craig Johnson as The Father. As in real-life, stage fathers with dementia have lucid and less-lucid moments. Photo by Alyssa Kristine.
