NEWS: Beloved Arts Reporter Passes Away

Pamela Espeland, a beloved arts reporter and fixture of Twin Cities journalism, passed away on Sunday, September 26. Her weekly Artscape column for MinnPost was a regular centerpiece of arts coverage.

A multi-talented author and editor, Pamela was a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, MN. As a copywriter, she worked with Stillwater, MN-based RLJ Entertainment, and Minneapolis, MN-based Universal Screen Arts. During a long association with Free Spirit Publishing, she alternately authored, coauthored, or edited more than 200 books, including both fiction and non-fiction titles. She began writing for MinnPost in 2007, expanding her portfolio over time to include the Star Tribune, NPR, Jazz.com, mnartists.org, and more. As a member of the Jazz Journalists Association, she regularly covered the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Pamela is survived by her husband John Whiting, several children and grandchildren, and their dog Boris.
