It’s the last day of the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and what will you see? A less-traditional-for-Fringe mount of an underperformed Edward Albee short play. The actors create magic as they bring Albee’s disquieting script to life. Minimal yet effective means – a bench, two costumes, and an excellently crafted soundtrack – are coupled with outstanding acting and directing. A professional production in every way. Least Likely To Succeed: Tales From A Midwestern Homeschooler (Tristan Miller) There comes a time in every stand-up comic’s routine where they try out new material. Usually, this is confined to a series or two within a more developed routine; this show seems to be a wholesale experiment with new stuff, with little of it landing as of the reviewed show. Looking for Justice (in all the wrong places) (Amy Oppenheimer) A message-driven show delving into dark topics, told in roughly chiseled yet powerful reflections. The show brims with raw honesty tempered by wit. This is not traditional theatre and not the polished sheen of Radiolab-style storytelling, but moving nonetheless.
