PREVIEW: Tina Packer’s Women of Will Arts Theatre by Twin Cities Arts Reader - January 15, 2016January 16, 2016 It’s not a Valentine, it’s not a plane, it’s the latest installment of the lauded Women of Substance series at the O’Shaughnessy. On February 4, the noted actor and theatre director Tina Packer takes the stage for Women of Will, a dynamic look at William Shakespeare’s varied depictions of women. Although the title of the show could easily refer to strong-minded women in theatre, in Packer’s case it also is a very direct reference to the Bard. As the founding artistic director of Shakespeare & Company, Packer has worked with Shakespeare’s work in repertory over the course of four decades. “It is a performance,” she said. “but it’s also a discussion, a debate” – and an opportunity to delve into how deep the characterizations of these different women are. She also draws on her detailed familiarity of the repertoire to chart how these characterizations evolved as Shakespeare grew as a writer. Women of Will plays on Thursday, February 4 at 7:30 PM at the O’Shaughnessy.
